'Be Here Now' Opens at WAM Theatre

Dewey Hall's 3rd Annual Sourdough Bread Contest

SHEFFIELD, Mass. — Dewey Hall will hold its third annual sourdough bread-baking competition on Friday, March 15   Bakers will enter two full-size loaves of bread, one for tasting/judging and one to be raffled off. Attendees will be invited to sample the contestants' loaves of bread along with complementary cheese boards from Rubiner's Cheesemongers and wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages provided by DARE Bottleshop. Daniel Manacher Prize for Young Artists Call for Art and Judge Announced

SANDISFIELD, Mass. — The Sandisfield Arts Center announced the 3rd annual Daniel Manacher Prize for Young Artists.    The Call for Art is open through April 7, 2024. Up to three artists will be selected as finalists, each receiving $400 to support their art practice. Winners will be notified no later than June 1, 2024. An exhibition of the finalist's work will be held in the fall at the Sandisfield Arts Center.   The contest will be judged by Josephine Halvorson, Professor of Art and Chair of Graduate Studies in Painting at Boston University. W. E. B. Du Bois Center to Reflect on Democracy this Season

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.— The W. E. B. Du Bois Center for Freedom and Democracy held a pre-birthday reception on Feb. 22, at Saint James Place in honor of civil rights pioneer W.E.B Du Bois. 

During the event community members met the center's first Executive Director Ny Whitaker and Michael Blake, the inaugural visiting scholar in democracy. 

"As Du Bois contemplated our collective challenges, he also set out a vision for what our democracy could be and called us to action for the role that we could take in making it a reality," Whitaker said. 

The night hinted at some of the topics the center will showcase during this year's programming themed

'Material Record' Gallery Opening at Bard College

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — "Material Record," Jamie Goldenberg's exhibition at the Daniel Arts Center at Bard College at Simon's Rock, opens on March 8 at 5:00 p.m. with a collaborative weaving project and opening reception.    The artist will briefly teach the principles of weaving and ask visitors to weave on her loom using yarns from her studio that she dyed over the past eight years. The interactive weaving will be available for the duration of the show.    The final community-woven piece will be displayed at the closing event, which will take place on April 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Black Box Theater at the Daniel Arts Center.
