Great Barrington Sets Budget Planning Sessions

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Finance Committee and Selectboard have set a series of joint meetings to develop the FY 2025 town budget. Guthrie Center Free Instrument Lending Program

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Guthrie Center "Check it Out" musical instrument loan library is designed to serve people of all ages and all instrument experience levels in Berkshire County.   The collection offers a variety of instruments from strings to drums to electric keyboards. Berkshire Organizations, Schools Awarded Mass Cultural Council Grants

Berkshire Bach Society Names Artistic Director

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is being celebrated Monday, Jan. 15. It is a federal holiday to commemorate the birthday of the civil rights activist born Jan. 15, 1929. It is observed on the third Monday in January.

King, a Baptist minister, led the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s by espousing nonviolent protest. Simon's Rock Food Pantry Accepting Donations

Carpenter Breaks School Assist Record at Framingham State

Framingham State senior point guard Gwendolyn Carpenter last month broke the all time assist record at the school.   Her 466th career assist came in a win over Curry College on Dec. 9, breaking a 5-year-old school record.   Carpenter was averaging more than seven assists per game going into Wednesday's home game against Westfield State. She also led the Rams (11-1) in minutes played, averaging 36.8 minutes per contest and had scored 9.4 points per game.   Carpenter is no stranger to breaking records. BHS Reinstitutes Masking and Updates Visitor Guidelines

Great Barrington Community Impact Fund Committee Recommends Awards

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The town Community Impact Fund Committee has recommended the distribution of the following funds to area nonprofits: Railroad Street Youth Project, $162,000 for community work to educate and mentor youth in the community. Rural Recovery Resources, $100,000 to support the addition of a bilingual recovery coach. Volunteers in Medicine, $56,000 to support substance abuse counseling work, which also received CIF funding last year. Great Barrington Police Department, $182,000 over two years to help fund a Co-responder Program, which includes a mental health professional to accompany police to calls when needed.
