Great Barrington Opens Mid-Year CPA Funding Cycle

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Great Barrington Community Preservation Committee (CPC) will hold a special "off-cycle" funding round for organizations with projects that meet CPA funding criteria.   Organizations must demonstrate to the CPC that their projects are "shovel-ready" and that funds are urgently needed. If the CPC agrees, and if funds are available, the committee may recommend that voters approve the grants at a Special Town Meeting this coming October.   Applications are due by close of business on Aug. 28; to request an application or more information, email Chris Rembold, crembold@townofgb.org.   The CPA was adopted by the voters of

LitNet Revamps Website to Better Serve Learners, Tutors

LEE, Mass. — The Literacy Network has launched a new website that furthers its mission of serving the county's immigrant population through language assistance, U.S. citizenship information, and other resources.

This is the first overhaul of LitNet's website in eight years and features improved translation and an intranet gathering space that allows around 160 volunteers to communicate with each other and staff.

The new page was created by Brickhouse Web Design of Pittsfield and was made possible by a grant from the Feigenbaum Foundation.

Trustees Receive Grant to Digitalize Ashley House Collection

BOSTON — The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees) Archives & Research Center has received a grant for over $344,819 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support a project called "A Tale of Two Communities in Two Centuries."   This two-year initiative will process, conserve, and digitize two sets of archives currently inaccessible in The Trustees' collections: the Colonel John Ashley Papers (1755-1818), and the archives of the Boston Natural Areas Network (1977-2014) that includes over 50 Boston Community Gardens.   "Spaced nearly two centuries apart and at geographically opposite ends of the state, these collections hold powerful

Mount Everett Artists Featured in Exhibit

W.E.B. Du Bois Sculpture Project Selects Artist

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The W.E.B. Du Bois Sculpture Project has selected artist Richard Blake to create a monument to W.E.B. Du Bois that will be placed in front of the town's Mason Public Library.   Blake was one of three finalists who presented models of their proposed statues to the Sculpture Project jury. The models were displayed to the public at the Mason Library in Great Barrington and at the Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield.   "All three of our applicants were talented, highly regarded sculptors, each with a unique vision of Du Bois," said jury leader and board member Lauren Clark, a gallerist. Berkshire Bounty to Crowdfund to Address Community Need

South County Paving and Guard Rail Repairs

LEE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing crews will be conducting daytime and overnight hour paving operations and guardrail repairs on I-90 eastbound and westbound in Lee, Becket, West Stockbridge and Stockbridge.

The work will be conducted at various times and locations from 7:00 p.m., Monday, Aug. 7, through 5:00 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 11.

Lane closures will be in place during repair operations and traffic will be able to travel through the work zones. The schedule for the work and lane closures will be as follows:
