National Grid Accepting Applications for Heating Assistance Programs

WALTHAM, Mass. — As colder temperatures take hold, National Grid is reminding Massachusetts customers to take advantage of energy programs that can help them pay and manage their energy bills.   The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), commonly referred to as Fuel Assistance, provides eligible households with help in paying a portion of winter heating bills. No Drought Conditions in Berkshire County

BOSTON — The Drought Management Task Force announced that Berkshire County remains at level 0 or normal drought conditions.   This is not the case for the rest of the state.   "Even though the weather is getting colder and wetter, we can't lose sight of the fact that several regions within Massachusetts continue to be impacted by drought conditions," said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Beth Card. Great Barrington Names New Finance Coordinator

Crespo as its new finance coordinator.   Crespo has held a series of roles with the city of Pittsfield, most recently as city accountant for seven years. She previously held positions as the city's information systems specialist, assistant treasurer and head clerk. Remains Positively Identified as Missing New York Teacher

LEE, Mass. — Remains found in Lee in September have been positively identified as missing New York State teacher Meghan Marohn.    The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston released the findings on Tuesday but was unable to determine cause and manner of death because of the condition of the remains.   Marohn was identified through dental records and a forensic anthropological examination that showed the remains are the same sex, ancestry, and stature of Marohn. The examination did not reveal any signs of pre-death trauma. The office's toxicology testing revealed the presence of THC and organic products of decomposition. The office could not determine a

STOW—The Baker-Polito Administration announced $5 million in grant awards to 308 fire departments from the FY23 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program.   In Berkshire County Adams, Dalton, Great Barrington, Lanesborough, Lee, Lenox, New Ashford, New Marlborough, North Adams, Peru, Pittsfield, Richmond, Sheffield, Stockbridge, and Williamstown all received grants.   "We ask so much of our firefighters, and no matter how dangerous or difficult the situation, they always do whatever it takes to help," said Governor Charlie Baker.
