BRTA Awarded Grant to Expand Service Area

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA) with the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) and Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA) were awarded a $1,577,607 Regional Transit Authority(RTA) grant to facilitate connections between the PVTA and FRTA service areas.   The grant will support commuter service between Pittsfield and Northampton, service between North Adams and Greenfield, and increased frequency on current service between Greenfield and Northampton, announced the Healey-Driscoll Administration in a press release Tuesday.   "Residents across our state rely on Regional Transit Authorities to get to work, school, the grocery

Staged Readings of 'Replacing Prancer' Announced At Dewey Hall, The Foundry

WEST STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — Dewey Hall and The Foundry are co-producing two staged readings of "Replacing Prancer," a new holiday play by Great Barrington playwright Tom Truss.    Performances will take place on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3:00 PM at Dewey Hall in Sheffield, and Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7:00 PM at The Foundry in West Stockbridge. Tickets are $10, with free admission for children 12 and under. Triplex Screens 'A Real Pain'

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Triplex Cinema announced a special screening of the critically acclaimed film "A Real Pain," which includes a discussion about the film with Hevreh Synagogue Senior Rabbi Jodie Gordon.

The discussion and screening will take place at 7:30 pm on Dec. 12 and tickets can be purchased at thetriplex.org.

Written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, "A Real Pain" tells the story of mismatched Jewish cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin) who reunite for a guided tour through Poland to honor their beloved and recently deceased grandmother.

Butternut Fire Command Terminated After 2 Weeks

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — After about two weeks of working to contain the Butternut Fire, the incident command has ended.

"I am extremely proud of the leadership and firefighters that put forth such extraordinary work to bring this incident to a close," Town Manager Mark Pruhenski said in a press release issued on Sunday.

"It has been a long time since Great Barrington has seen such an incident, the collaboration between all of the agencies was impressive."

South County Night Construction Operations

STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing nighttime construction operations on I-90 eastbound and westbound for bridge painting, bridge repair work, and guardrail work.

The work will take place from Monday, Dec. 2, through Friday, Dec. 6, during the following scheduled hours.

Becket

Bridge painting will be conducted on I-90 westbound at mile marker 18.4, utilizing lane closures, from Monday night, Dec. 2, through Thursday night, Dec. 5, ending Friday morning, Dec. 6, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. 

West Stockbridge/Stockbridge 

Bridge repair work will take place on I-90 eastbound from mile marker 3.9 to mile marker 6.5,

Berkshire Bounty Receives Challenge Grant From Warrior Trading

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Berkshire Bounty, a 501(c)3 food rescue organization, received a challenge grant –a dollar to dollar match--of $10,000 from Warrior Trading.    Berkshire Bounty's goal is to raise $100,000 by the end of 2024. Berkshire Bounty will be fundraising on GivingTuesday. The organization will then follow up with a crowdfunding campaign between Dec. 10 and Dec. 20, in which it will reach out to supporters to complete that goal.     "We are seeing a pressing demand for fresh, nutritious food for people who are food insecure. Jacob's Pillow Announces Opening Date of Doris Duke Theatre

Butternut Fire 40 Percent Contained

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Butternut Fire is 40 percent contained and the command post has been moved to Butternut Ski Area.

Tuesday brought welcome rain and first responders operated with a smaller crew focused on observing. One week into the wildfire, officials maintain that conditions are improving and the public should not be alarmed.

"After additional data gathered yesterday and compiled overnight, we can say with confidence that the fire is 40 percent contained," the Great Barrington Fire Department wrote on Tuesday morning.

Butternut Fire Contained; Conditions Improve

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — The Butternut Fire is now believed to be contained after burning nearly 1,400 acres on East Mountain.   The Fire Department continues to urge people to stay out of the affected woods, as the chances of getting hurt are high, and not to start outdoor fires.   Public Information Officer Lt. Swann, Williams College Harriers Compete at NCAA Championships

Mount Greylock Regional School alumna Kate Swann and the Williams College women's cross country team are in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday morning to compete at the NCAA Division III Championship.   Williams crushed the field at the 24-team regional championship in New London, Conn., to qualify for the national championship.   On Nov. 16 at the Mideast Regional, Williams finished with 59 points, well ahead of runner-up Rensselaer Polytechnic, which collected 110 points.   Swann, a junior, was the second Williams runner across the finish line, finishing 10th overall with a time of 21 minutes, 36 seconds on the 6-kilometer course.   Williams has finished first or second
