LENOX, Mass. — Helen F. Agar, 92, of Lenox died Wednesday, December 26, 2018, at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Great Barrington, Mass., on August 30, 1926, to the late Gordon and Ruth Bristol Forrest, she graduated from Searles High School. Helen attended Westfield State College, where she obtained her BA degree in education, and worked as a first- and third-grade school teacher for the Town of Lee public schools. She sought to foster the love of learning in each of her students, retiring in 1988 after twenty years of service.
She was a faithful member of the Church on the Hill for 61 years, where she taught Sunday school and participated in community events.
She was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan. She also enjoyed golfing, painting, gardening, and especially spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Agar married Robert K. Agar Jr. on October 1, 1947; he died on April 1, 1981.
She is survived by her children, Dale R. Graham (Scott) of Lee, Robert F. Agar (Kris) of Loveland, Ohio, Nancy A. DeBaun (John) of Sandown, N.H., and Richard K. Agar (Debbie) of Lenexa, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral notice: Calling hours will be on Sunday, December 30, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240. The funeral service for Mrs. Helen F. Agar will be held at the Church on the Hill on Monday, December 31, 2018, at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will be on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory may be made to Church on the Hill in care of the funeral home.
