Barbara Pollack, 82

Barbara Joan (Bednarowski) Pollack, 82, of Pittsfield, MA, passed away Monday, July 4th, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Schenectady, NY, on March 1st, 1940, to the late Edward and Pauline Bednarowski.



Barbara grew up in Scotia, NY. She was a majorette, a member of Gamma Sigma Chi sorority, and modeled for a boating company. She graduated in 1957 from Scotia-Glenville High School with a focus on business and secretarial studies and later was employed with First National Bank of Scotia.



After moving to the Berkshires in 1974, she continued her banking career with Union Federal Savings Bank. Barbara later became the secretary to the Principal of Lanesboro Elementary School, a career she adored for 30 years. During this time, she also worked as a part-time tour guide for Dufour Tours. After her retirement, Barbara regularly substituted as a secretary for the Pittsfield School system.



Barbara was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor. She had a great talent for knitting and crafting, was a wonderful cook, and loved gardening and reading. She was active in Tai-Chi classes, walking clubs, and enjoyed outings with the Red Hat Society and her retiree luncheons. She was also a devoted member of The Berkshire Nautilus.



Barbara leaves behind her loving children – Karen L. Abate (Victor) of Saratoga Springs, NY, Robert E. Pollack (Maria Teresa) of Melbourne, FL, and Jeffrey P. Pollack of Pittsfield. She also leaves her grandchildren – Bobby Abate, Brittany Abate, Nicholas Abate, Samantha Abate, as well as her sister Linda Diel of Pittsfield, former husband Robert P. Pollack of Ballston Lake, and several nieces and nephews. Barbara touched many lives and was loved by everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed.



A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 10:00am at St. Charles Church, 89 Briggs Ave. in Pittsfield. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Cemetery, 605 Main Street in Williamstown, MA. Calling hours are at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home (WEST CHAPELS) at 521 West Main Street, North Adams, MA on Monday July 11th from 4-7pm. Flowers in Barbara’s memory or memorial donations in Barbara’s name, for Fairview Commons Rehabilitation Center, can be made through the funeral home.
