PITTSFIELD, Mass. —
Joelle C. Chapman, 79, passed away on December 5, 2024 at Craneville Place in Dalton after a long battle with cancer. Born on March 5, 1945, she was the daughter of Joel F. Calkins and Eunice Harrington Calkins. She was a 1963 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Joelle was the oldest of seven children. Mrs. Chapman was a type setter for 17 years at the Berkshire Eagle and worked for 11 years at Crosby Elementary School in Pittsfield as a computer instructor. She was also fortunate to stay at home to raise her two children. Joelle was known for her kind nature and upbeat sense of humor, and she loved her family dearly.
She was predeceased by her husband William A. Chapman Sr., whom she married April 12, 1975. She and her husband were members of the Pittsfield Elks Lodge, and they enjoyed camping, fishing, and trips to Saratoga Casino. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and music with her grandchildren Bradley and Haley, and spending time with her grandson Weston, and his wonderful sense of humor. Joelle leaves her son William R. Chapman (Mindy) and daughter Joelle M. LaCasse (Max). Her grandchildren Bradley, Haley, and Weston. Her stepchildren William Jr. (Cheryl), Gary (Sharon), Deborah Tyska, and Laurie Briggs, as well as her step grandchildren. Her siblings Ruth Pratt (Richard), Kathleen Wolfgang (Gerry), Glenn Calkins (Susan), Nancy Turco (Paul), Judy Coty (Peter), and all of her loving nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother Timmy.
Services: Friends are invited to join with the family for visitation at Devanny-Condron Funeral Home on Saturday, December 14th beginning at 9:30am. A funeral home prayer service led by Rev. Dariusz Wudarski of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish will begin at 11am. Burial will follow at Pittsfield Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish (North Adams) Beacon of Faith Capital Campaign, or the Pittsfield Elks Lodge #272 Scholarship Fund, in care of the Devanny-Condon funeral home. The family would like to thank the BMC Cancer Center and Craneville Place of Dalton for their compassionate care.
