WEST LEBANON, N.Y. - For more than 30 years, fans have seen some of the best 410 Sprint Car drivers race around the high banks of Lebanon Valley Speedway with blistering speeds. In 2016, fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early to witness the first ever appearance of Tony Stewart’s All-Star Circuit Of Champions on Aug. 21.


Lebanon Valley Speedway has offered race fans a major 410 sprint car race each year going back many years. Typically, those events ran under the (World Of Outlaws) Sprint banner. PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Long-distance cyclists may soon be directed to bike through the Berkshires.

The American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials are developing a massive highway system designation throughout the country for long-distance bicyclists to map out routes. What is eyed as US Bicycle Route 7 would connect Connecticut with Vermont through the Berkshires.

"It's connecting regions and states much like the highway system," said Berkshire Regional Planning Commission Senior Planner Emily Lindsey.

BRPC is supportive of the agreement but the effort to get the designation will need the backing of the eight Berkshire communities whose local roads

Girls Lacrosse Youth Programs Offered

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Two Pittsfield-based youth girls lacrosse programs are available for players in grades 3 and up this spring.

Pittsfield’s Boys and Girls Club offers programs in two age groups: juniors (grades 3 to 6) and seniors (grades 7 and 8). New players are welcome and no experience is required.

 

The Berkshire Attack girls lacrosse club is an elite program for girls entering grades 6 to 12 and offering summer and fall playing opportunities.

 

The Attack will hold an informational meeting on Thursday, March 31, at 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club’s Lighthouse Cafe.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The governor has tapped Michael Case to head the Western Regional office of the Department of Conservation and Recreation.   Case took over the job on Feb. 1 and now oversees 39 parks from Mount Holyoke west, including Pittsfield State Forest, Mount Tom, and Mount Greylock.    "I've been a Berkshires guy all my life. I'm an outdoors guy. I couldn't say no," Case said on Friday.    The position is administrative and manages all of the state parks in the region. He oversees a team of district managers. The goal under Commissioner Leo Roy is to encourage usage of the state parks and "open up opportunities",

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Kevin Cummings knows how quickly a good idea can snowball.   The executive director of the Bay State Games is excited to see games offer two new events when it returned to the Berkshires for its 31st season.   "I started with the organization in 1984, and I remember '85 was the first figure skating competition," Cummings said.
