BECKET, Mass. — Requests for funding through the Becket Community Preservation Fund for this coming year are due by Feb. 28.
The Becket Community Preservation Fund may be used to support projects in three broad areas: open space/recreation, historic preservation and affordable housing.
Funding may be used to acquire, create, rehabilitate and preserve open space and recreational areas. Funding may also be used for historic preservation, acquisition and rehabilitation. Affordable housing funding can go toward building, supporting, rehabilitating or purchasing affordable housing.
The Becket Community Preservation Fund is a combination of a modest surcharge on property taxes and allocations from the state to be used to help preserve, protect and enhance the unique character and attributes of towns. The funding priorities are decided by the town and project funding is voted on during Town Meeting after a public hearing is held in March to discuss the applications received.
For more information on the Community Preservation Fund, who may apply and an application form please visit the town of Becket website or pick up paper copies at town hall during office hours.
