Berkshire Force 14s Take Exciting Series from Greylock Thunder

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Berkshire Force 14-and-under softball team this week edged the Greylock Thunder in the state championship tournament in a best-of-three series that featured three one-run games.
 
Game 1
 
The Force 14U took Wednesday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 7-6 walk-off victory over Greylock Thunder. 
 
The game was tied at six with the Force batting in the bottom of the seventh when Taea Bramer laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run.
 
Greylock scored five runs in the sixth inning, but the Force still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Greylock came thanks to a single by Taylor Cornell, a error, a double by Katie Booth, and a double by Abby Bird.
 
The Force scored three runs in the sixth inning.
 
Sophia-Marie Groves earned the win in the circle. She threw 5-1/3 innings, surrendering five runs, seven hits, striking out six, and walking zero. Bird took the loss for Greylock Thunder. She pitched 6-1/3 innings, surrendering seven runs, nine hits, and striking out eight.
 
The Force collected nine hits. Jordyn Lummus and Addison Lyon each collected multiple hits. Lexi Sondrini and Kirsten Carrigan each drove in two runs.
 
Syrah Bradley went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Thunder.
 
Game 2
 
It came down to the last play, but the Force ended up on the wrong end of a 6-5 defeat.
 
The game was tied at five with Greylock Thunder batting in the bottom of the ninth when Bradley singled off of Sophia-Marie Groves, driving in one run.
 
The Force knotted the game up at five in the top of the sixth inning.
 
Rylyn Witek earned the win for Greylock Thunder. She went 4-1/3 innings, allowing two runs, four hits, and striking out one. Kirsten Carrigan took the loss for. She tossed  four innings, giving up two runs, five hits, striking out three, and walking one.
 
The Force 14U had eight hits in the game. Szophia Lewis, Carrigan, and Taea Bramer each collected multiple hits, and Bramer and Lewis each drove in a run.
 
The Thunder collected 11 hits. Rylie Bishop, Madison Puppolo, and Booth each had multiple hits.
 
Game 3
 
The Berkshire Force 14U defeated the Greylock Thunder, 10-9, on Thursday to take the series.
 
The Force trailed, 9-8, in the top of the seventh inning when a wild pitch brought home two runs.
 
Berkshire built a four-run lead in the third inning, but Greylock charged back with eight runs on a single by Cornell in the third, a double by Booth in the third, a fielder's choice by Bird in the fourth, an RBI by Witek in the fourth, a single by Puppolo in the sixth, and a single by Bradley in the sixth.
 
Sophia-Marie Groves earned the win for the Force. She pitched five innings, giving up six runs, and seven hits. Puppolo took the loss for Greylock Thunder. She went four innings, giving up six runs, and seven hits.
 
Bird started the game for Greylock Thunder. She went three innings, surrendering five runs, six hits, and striking out one.
 
The Force collected 13 hits. Jordyn Codding, Bramer, and Sondrini each collected multiple hits. Groves, Ellianna Christopher, Lyon, Sondrini, Lummus,  Lewis, Bramer, and Alyssa Mercier each drove in a run.
 
Greylock had 11 hits in the game.  Bishop, Hannah Stack, Booth, and Cornell each had multiple hits.
