To the Editor:
The IBPO Local 447 (Pittsfield Police Officers Union) and IBPO Local 447S (Pittsfield Police Superior Officers Union) formally endorse Paul Caccaviello for the office of Berkshire County district attorney.
There are a number of reasons for our endorsement with the most obvious being that his experience with the criminal justice system in Berkshire County and particularly the district attorney's office are unmatched by any of the other candidates seeking election. Many members of both unions have worked closely with DA Caccaviello for the past 25-plus years. He has worked as a prosecutor in the district court, Jury of Six, Berkshire Superior Court, and ultimately as the first assistant district attorney under David Capeless.
We have worked closely with Caccaviello in preparation for numerous trials as well as during major investigations including but not limited to shootings and homicides. He has always demonstrated the highest level of professionalism, knowledge, and integrity throughout our working relationship. The partnerships that he has developed with Berkshire County law enforcement during his career will ensure his success as district attorney.
There is no doubt in our minds that each decision made by Caccaviello as DA and each case prosecuted by his office will be done so with justice and the public safety of Berkshire County being the top priorities. Caccaviello has demonstrated time and again that he is a person who can be trusted and will always do what is "right" with no hidden agenda. He is a lifelong resident of Berkshire County and a devoted husband and father. He is not only a person whom you would want to call district attorney but more importantly whom you would want to call a neighbor and a friend.
Caccaviello's professional accomplishments are numerous and speak to the training and experience that he has accumulated in over 25 years of service. During his tenure as first assistant district attorney, Caccaviello has helped to assemble and manage an office of top-level prosecutors, victim advocates and office personnel who possess the skill, compassion and high ethical standards that are required to effectively prosecute criminal cases and stand up for the victims of crimes in our community.
Dedicated, professional, compassionate, unwavering and fair are a few of the words that members of our unions have used to describe Acting DA Caccaviello. We know that he will stand for justice as your district attorney and we are proud to offer our endorsement.
