Looking for something to do with the kids during April school vacation? Look no further!

 

Single Events

Wednesday, April 17: The Family Center will host its annual Touch A Truck celebration from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot behind the Hasins Center on 210 State St., North Adams. Touch a Truck is an annual free, fun community event for the whole family. Featuring big trucks and vehicles to explore. Children will have a chance to see and learn about a fire truck, police car and ambulance. Other vehicles to explore will be a school bus, tractors and construction vehicles.

Wednesday, April 17: The Nutshell Playhouse will present “Saving Jazzy” at The Whitney Center for the Arts, 42 Wendell Ave., at 10 a.m. Can Mambo and Nemonee save the beautiful but endangered Floratius Serendipitus? Follow them on their hilarious adventures around the globe as they look for the special ingredients that will do the trick. Featuring masks, movement, live music and puppetry, this original performance provides a wonderful chance to awaken young children to earth’s mysteries and the delicate balance of nature. Performed by actors Alexia Trainer and Stefanie Weber, with live musical accompaniment by Don Jordan.

Wednesday, April 17: Mariah, outreach coordinator from the Berkshire Natural Resources Council, will present an "All About Insects" storytime, including a reading of "Fly Guy Presents: Insects" by Ted Arnold accompanied by a lesson about beneficial insects at the North Adams Public Library at 2 p.m. Each child will make a bug hotel to take home. The lesson is geared toward first- through fourth-graders, but any interested youth are welcome.

Thursday, April 18: Williamstown author Ali Benjamin will celebrate the release of her new book "The Next Great Paulie Fink" at the Williams Bookstore at 81 Spring St. in Williamstown at 7 p.m. There will be beverages for kids and adults and a brief reading by the author.

Thursday, April 18: Instructor Amy will facilitate a Family Yoga Class at the North Adams Public Library from 1 to 2 p.m. This kid-friendly class will include, music, games, mindfulness activities, a story and poses. Best suited for children ages 3 1/2 to 8 years old; siblings welcome. Bring a yoga mat if you have one; some mats will be available at the program.

 

Week-long events

Clark Art Institute: A school-vacation program on "The Art of Improv" will introduce upper-grade elementary students to improvisational comedy ("improv"). The four workshop sessions - April 16-19 from 2 to 4 p.m., with a 2 p.m. performance on April 20 - will include engaging with art in the galleries, playing classic improv games and developing original scenes inspired by the Clark collection, with a culminating performance for friends and loved ones. The program will be led by Amanda Bell Goldmakher, Clark art educator and a graduate of the People’s Improv Theatre in New York City. All materials and a daily snack will be provided. Enrollment is limited to eight children. Reserve online.

Greylock Federal Credit Union: Greylock Federal Credit Union is celebrating National Credit Union Youth Month by hosting a series of activities for members of its Youth Club. The theme is The Magic of Saving and features free access to local activities and giveaways for making a deposit as well as an opportunity to secure a special 15-month Youth Club Certificate of Deposit at a special rate. Starting on Monday, April 15, Youth Club members can stop by any Greylock branch, make a deposit, and ask for a "Magic of Saving" giveaway and tickets for special events on Wednesday through Friday.

On Monday, stop by the West Street location and meet Dale the Wizard of Savings and pick up a free movie pass for the special Tuesday afternoon showing of "Dumbo" at the Beacon Cinema. Wednesday is Berkshire Museum day, where kids can explore the many interesting exhibits at the museum between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. On Thursday, the Greylock Youth Club will go bowling between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the following locations: Valley Park Bowling Alley, 1274 Curran Highway, North Adams; Ken’s Bowl, 495 Dalton Ave., Pittsfield; and Cove Bowling Lanes, 109 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington. Ticket includes two games and shoe rental for kids when accompanied by an adult. Friday the club will explore the exciting world of Modern Magic at 2 p.m. with Doug Eash at the Salvation Army, 298 West Street, Pittsfield.

Hancock Shaker Village: Baby Animals at Hancock Shaker Village kicks off with a non-denominational blessing of the animals with Rev. Mark Longhurst of Williamstown Congregational Church and Shaker singing with Warren Dews of Price Memorial AME Zion Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13. Baby Animals continues daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through April 28. Info online.

Norman Rockwell Museum: The Norman Rockwell Museum will host a series of creative events for school vacation week. The week begins Sunday, April 14, with a closing celebration of student artwork and continues Monday, April 15, with a three-day comic book camp just for students. A drop-in art workshop for all ages runs daily Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. Details online.

Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation: "Vacation Exploration" will once again be offered by the Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation at its Sheep Hill location during school vacation Tuesday, April 16, through Friday, April 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. The program is open to children in grades kindergarten through fourth. Outdoor activities will be nature oriented and include hikes, crafts, cooking/baking and more! Registration form and details online.
