The Southwestern Vermont Health Care Auxiliary welcomes an exhibit of artwork by local school children. This is 40th exhibit of student work.

The show includes pieces selected from works of more than 3,000 kindergarten through grade 12 students. More than 200 students' work represents each of the eight schools in the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union.  

The exhibit is open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily through June 6. In addition to the Corridor Gallery, the SVHC Auxiliary manages the Personal Emergency Response System operations and independent vendor sales. For information about joining the SVHC Auxiliary, visit the website or call 802-440-4024.

 

Gallop to Success

Gallop To Success, a nonprofit 501 c3 organization that works with at-risk youth from the ages of 5 to 17, is accepting applications for summer 2019 scholarship recipients. Scholarships are available for one week summer day horse camp (10-week session, schedule is available online); summer overnight horse camp; and year round scholarships (recipient attends one to two days per week, 48 weeks of the year).

Gallop To Success works with at-risk boys and girls through horses and farm life. The program is available for at-risk youth who are financially unable to attend the course farm program camp. Recovery coaches

As part of an effort to build a recovery community in the Northern Berkshires, the Beacon Recovery Community Center, a new program of the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition, is sponsoring the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy. This five-day intensive training provides the skills needed to guide, mentor and support anyone who would like to enter or sustain long-term recovery from an addiction to alcohol or other drugs.

This training will take place on Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Holiday Inn in North Adams. The registration fee is $100 for agency staff and $25 for community members. Scholarship opportunities are available. Coffee, water, snacks, and lunch will be provided daily. The deadline for registration and payment is May 1.

Linda Sarage, consultant and former director of The Recover Project in Greenfield and Joe Buyse, director of Living in Recovery in Pittsfield, will facilitate this training, which is the foundation to become a certified ARC in Massachusetts. The BRCC provides peer support to those seeking and maintaining recovery from addiction. BRCC is a peer led effort that offers support groups, connections to networks that can assist anyone seeking recovery, and opportunities to socialize with others. The community center has open hours on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at The Green, located at 85 Main St. in North Adams and is free and open to all.

 

Hancock school choice

Hancock School in Hancock is accepting kindergarten through sixth-grade school choice applications for the 2019-2020 academic year.

A lottery will be held on May 15. If all slots are not filled on May15, slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis until classes are full.

Call for artists

Artscape invites artists to apply to a juried art auction to benefit public art in Pittsfield. Up to three pieces will be accepted in all media, including fine art, photography, jewelry, ceramics, etc. Artists may choose to submit as a donation or receive 30 percent of the proceeds. Artists will receive promotion in the Berkshires as well as free entry to the event.

The deadline to submit is May 15. Artists will be notified of acceptance by May 31. Artscape's Fine Art Auction will be held Thursday, June 13,from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Framework Coworking, 437 North St. To apply online, go to the website or send an email to request an application.

All proceeds to benefit Artscape, a volunteer committee which sponsors, plans, and oversees an annual juried exhibition of public art in the City of Pittsfield, including the installation of sculptures downtown and the Pittsfield Paintbox Project, turning electrical load boxes into works of art.  

 

Request for Proposals

The Jewish Women's Foundation of Berkshire County, an associate of the Jewish Federation of the Berkshires, is soliciting grant proposals from not-for-profit Berkshires-based organizations that for projects or programs aimed at fulfilling unmet needs in the Berkshire community, specifically those that meet clients' basic needs for shelter, food and clothing and/or promote the development of life skills, including communication, academics, literacy and empowerment.

Both Jewish and non-Jewish nonprofit organizations are encouraged to apply for grants up to $3,500. The foundation will accept grant proposals beginning on Wednesday, May 1, via an online grant application available. Deadline for submitting a proposal is Thursday, May 30. Final decisions will be announced in September.

In 2018, the foundation awarded $32,000 to 14 local organizations, including the Berkshire Christian Center, Berkshire Immigrant Center, Backyard Bounty of the Berkshires, Berkshire Community Diaper Project, Berkshire Grown, The Boys and Girls Club, Berkshire South Community Suppers, Congregation Beth Israel/Take and Eat Program, Community Health Program, Gladys Allen Brigham Community Center, Project Connection at Berkshire Hills Regional School District, Alchemy Initiative/Pittsfield Farmers Market, Railroad Street Youth Project and the Northern Berkshire Interfaith Action Initiative.
