SHEFFIELD, Mass. — The Sheffield Land Trust's 24th Annual Winter Lecture is called "More Birds! More Bees! More Butterflies! Fewer Invasives! Taking Care of our Land in a Changing Climate."

The event is virtual on Saturday, March 5 at 4:30pm, via Zoom.  The slide show presentations will be followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

The Berkshires is home to some of the most diverse ecosystems in Massachusetts. Find out what conservation organizations are doing to take care of their land in a changing climate —and what you can do to take care of yours

The hour-long presentation will be given by panel of four experts.  Karen Lombard and Angela Sirois-Pitel, from The Nature Conservancy, will talk about how warmer weather, precipitation changes, and extreme events associated with climate change are creating challenges for plant and animal survival, and the factors that can make our natural areas more resilient to climate change.  Tom Lautzenheiser, from Mass Audubon, will explain how reforestation and other techniques benefit humans and wildlife.  Bridghe McCracken from Helia Native Nursery will provide advice on planning and planting a diverse, resilient garden that encourages pollinators and feeds birds and other animals.

The lecture begins at 4:30pm, but attendees can sign on 5 or 10 minutes early if you want to familiarize yourself with how things look on your own screens before it starts.
