GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass.— Robin Gerber's new play "The Shot" will be performed on stage in the Liebowitz Black Box Theater, located at Bard College at Simon's Rock, from June 16 until June 19.

Tickets and information can be found on the Great Barrington Public Theater website. There will be only five performances.

According to the press release, the play explores the journey of The Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham as she struggles with the inner conflicts, fear, and deep faith in love and duty but persevered to survive and triumph and became a powerful publisher that brought down Richard Nixon's White House making her a model of determination and power.

Great Barrington Public Artistic Director Jim Frangione said he chose "The Shot" to show the power of a single human voice

"The Shot is a personal story of a famed person who faces and conquers harrowing circumstance that too many women are forced and expected to face every day," Frangione said in the press release. "She took on gender shaming, grappled with self-conflict and mastered self-discovery. It's a story of human character that makes us all exceptional."

The backstory explores domestic violence, gender bias, guns in America, and power structures that subjugate women.

"The Shot is a story for this moment. The #metoo focus on harassment and abuse outside the home must look inside as well," Gerber said in the press release. "The first refuge for sexism and misogyny is the treatment of women as objects for abuse in their domestic life. If we can be abused with impunity, we can be paid less, denied opportunity and control over our bodies."

The Shot is based on playwright Robin Gerber's fictional book, "Katharine Graham: The Leadership Journey of An American Icon."

The play is directed by Michelle Joyner and stars Emmy Award-winning actress Sharon Lawrence who plays Katharine Graham.
