Garceau Earns All-America Honors at UMass Boston

Wahconah Regional High School graduate and UMass Boston sophomore Aryianna Garceau earned all-America honors in the 100-meter hurdles at May's NCAA Division III Championships.   Garceau took sixth in the finals with a time of 14.05 seconds after qualifying for the finals with a time of 13.97, which broke a 35-year school record.   In earning all-America honors, Garceau became the 20th Beacon to achieve that honor and the first since 2018.   Earlier in May, Garceau was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association's all-Region team. Nikema Williams of Georgia's 5th District kicked off W.E.B. Du Bois Center's "Reflections on Democracy" series on Juneteenth.   Approximately 200 people gathered at Saint James Place to discuss democracy with Williams, moderated by Michael Blake, the center's first-ever visiting scholar in democracy.   The event was the first of a four-part series. Berkshire Youth Soccer Holds Season-Ending Tournament

LENOX, Mass. -- Eight teams earned championships last weekend in the finals of the Berkshire County Youth Soccer League spring season.   Teams of boys and girls in grades 5-6 and 7-8 participated in the season-ending tournament, organized by Donna Laroque and Nigel Gayle and hosted mostly at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School.   One squad, the Williamstown Wildcats 12-and-under girls, is extending its season with a trip to this weekend's Massachusetts Tournament of Champions in Lancaster.   Teams winning Berkshire County league titles on June 15 included:   Under-12 Boys B Cup Final: GYAA 2, Williamstown Soccer Club 1 Girls B Cup Final: GYAA 2, Pittsfield Soccer

'Striking Out Cancer' Event Returns June 29 in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Four years in and still swinging for the fences, the Striking out Cancer in the Berkshires fund-raiser returns on Saturday, June 29, at Clapp Park.   The all-day baseball and women’s softball games are the brainchild of city resident Joe DiCicco, who conceived the event as a way to raise money to support the Jimmy Fund for cancer research and patient care at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.   For $10, any player of any ability is welcome to join in the fun. TriTown Connector Expands with Late Night Hours

BAV Project Addresses Region's Dairy Farming Challenges

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Berkshire Agricultural Ventures (BAV) announced the launch of the Berkshire-Taconic Dairy Cohort, a two-year project to support and sustain dairy farming in the region.
