Berkshire Horseworks Secures Grant From MountainOne Foundation

RICHMOND, Mass. — Berkshire HorseWorks, Inc., a 501c3 mission-driven nonprofit, which for 10 years has offered Eagala Model Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Equine Assisted Learning, Equine Assisted Team building, and other therapeutic and recreational activities with horses, has secured funding through a grant of $1,000 from MountainOne Foundation to support local schools in Berkshire County with academic challenges to build literacy skills.    In addition, BHW welcomed new board member Beth Persing, a licensed social worker and substance abuse counselor. Barrington Stage To Hold Auditions for Local Teens

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Barrington Stage Company will hold auditions for local teens ages 13-19 for The Virginia and Harvey Kimmel Arts Education Fund's 2024 Devised Theatre Ensemble.   Auditions are March 23 at Barrington Stage's Wolfson Center, 122 North Street, from 10am-2pm. The day will start with a group warmup and audition, followed by individual auditions. Those auditioning should prepare a 16-bar cut from the musical theatre cannon. An accompanist is provided. Berkshire Farmers Markets Awarded State Grants

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced that the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) is awarding over $205,000 to help farmers markets grow and expand their outreach to consumers.    MDAR is awarding funding to 23 organizations representing 31 farmers markets through the Farmers Market Sustainability Grant Program. Human Remains Found Near Great Barrington Cemetery

Update: The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has identified the human remains found in Great Barrington to be those of Sascha Cameron (DOB 3/14/76, Great Barrington). The cause of death has not yet been determined. GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — On Friday, Feb. 23 the Great Barrington Police Department and the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit responded to a report of human remains found in Great Barrington.    According to the District Attorney's Office, the remains were discovered approximately 20 feet in the woods surrounding the Mahaiwe Cemetery. Daniel Pearl Scholarship Open for Applications

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Applications are available for the 22nd annual Daniel Pearl Berkshire Scholarship.    The $2,000 award is given in memory of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter kidnapped and killed in Pakistan early in 2002. Pearl earlier worked in the Berkshires at The North Adams Transcript and The Berkshire Eagle.   While Pearl's career was in journalism, he was also a gifted musician, trained as a classical violinist.
